Jammu, Aug 1: Daljit Singh Chib, Vice Chairman J&K State Advisory Board for Development of Kissan today visited several areas and took stock of various crops. He was accompanied by Director Agriculture Jammu, DP Khajuria, Member of Kisan Board, Tajinder Singh, Member of the Board and other Officers of Agriculture Department, Singh undertook a comprehensive tour to many places in Jammu such as PouniChak, Seri Rakwala, Gow Manawsa, Nai Basti, KothayPurn, Dei Chak, Suhagni, Rothoa, Ranjan, Domi, Upper Garota, Ahore, Panjor, and Chinore. The aim of the tour was to reach to the farmers at their fields and see on spot the problems being faced by them in their day to day drudgery and making the officers of the Agriculture department answerable to the queries of the farmers. During this visit it was encouraging to observe that the farmers have realized full benefits of good monsoon and the kharief crops stand completely sown in all the areas. The farmers were of the view that the present trend of the monsoons will result in good prospects of crops. The area visited was almost paddy growing belt and the demonstration plots laid out by the Agriculture department for line sowing of recommended verities of paddy crop have largely motivated the farmers to adopt such methods of sowing resulting in higher production. It was also heartening to see the area having a special feature cultivation of maize crop for production and marketing of green cobs which is a commercial activity and farmers are getting reasonable returns. The team later on visited Chinore Farm which is the main source of seed multiplication in the Jammu Province. Certified seeds are being multiplied for Paddy, Wheat, Oil Seeds and pulses crops. |
