Ruhullah plays politics over deadbody | | | ET Report JAMMU, Aug 1: After losing power National Conference is toeing the line of separatists and seems to be hell bent upon vitiating the peaceful atmosphere in Kashmir. The newly appointed chief spokesman of the NC Aga Syed Ruhullah on Friday issued a hard hitting statement demanding that mortal remains of the Parliament attack convict Afzal Guru, who was hanged at Tihar Jail in New Delhi, be handed over to his family. A day after Yakub Memon was hanged, Ruhullah issued a statement saying, "Guru's family being deprived of his body was against the tenets of natural justice and undermined the constitutional principles of the country. The system cannot differentiate based on biased presumptions and politics and that such glaring double standards between Memon's and Guru's cases highlighted the perception of discrimination among the people of Kashmir." A critic, while ridiculing the statement of Ruhullah, said, "Its seems someone needs to remind the NC chief spokesperson that when Guru was hanged the working president of his party Omar Abdullah was the Chief Minister and his party was running the government along with the Congress, which was at the helm of the affairs in Centre at that point of time." He said that NC has started believing that memory of the masses is short lived and they can be taken for a ride by issuing misleading statements. "When Afzal Guru was hanged none of the NC leaders demanded his body back. Most NC leaders were of the opinion that his body should not be sent back as it could create law and order problems in the Valley," the critic added. He said the then Chief Minister Omar Abdullah was forced to write a letter to then Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh to seek return of Afzal's body after opposition raked up the issue otherwise Omar had slept over the issue. "Despite Centre taking Omar in loop before hanging Guru, he (Omar) claimed that he was unaware about the decision. Now out of power NC wants Guru's body back. NC should realize that it cannot hoodwink the people anymore." An expert while talking to Early Times said, "National Conference has crossed its breach by interfering into Yakub Memon's hanging. It (NC) should realize that it's a local party and it has got nothing to with the issues which touch the country's security." He claimed that NC was rejected by the masses in 2014 assembly elections due to its leadership failing at all the fronts. "The NC leaders, including their Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, just indulged in mere rhetoric and failed to do anything for people. After being shown the exit door the NC leaders are trying to polarize the Jammu and Kashmir regions so that they can once again mislead the masses and call the shots." The expert said that security agencies should take a serious note of Ruhullah's statement as it could have created law and order problems as he tried his best to entice the people by claiming that Memon's body was returned and Guru's was retained. "It seem NC is following the footsteps of separatists and wants to somehow vitiate the peaceful atmosphere in the Valley," he added. |
