Another bombshell dropped on Super-speciality hospital, Health ministry now messes up with Urology deptt | | | Syed Junaid Hashmi Early Times Report JAMMU, Aug 1: Call it irony of sorts or illogical decision making but Health and Medical Education department after having virtually destroyed working atmosphere of cardiology department has now targeted Urology department of the super-speciality hospital. According to the sources, health and medical education department has again directly interfered in the working of the urology department. An order has been issued from the civil secretariat in which the department has been bifurcated into two units. Through the order, they have created the two units without actually mentioning the same in the order. Calling the order "working roster", sources said that the directions have been issued from the civil secretariat to strictly adhere to the roster. Though roster making is the sole discretion of the head of the department and if he is not available, the same can be done by the Principal in consultation with the faculty members. But of late, Health and Medical Education ministry has begun taking extraordinary interest in the internal working of the department by issuing orders, which even the government norms do not permit them. Sources said that Dr. Sunil Gupta, who is a reputed urologist, has been shown the door from the urology department and told to work only in the General Surgery department. They added that the two units which have been created include Dr. Elias Sharma and Dr. Rahul Gupta as leads. They further said that of the two Doctors, the qualifying criteria of Dr. Elias Sharma continues to be under cloud since he is yet to be cleared by the Public Service Commission (PSC). Yet Dr. Elias has been assigned the vital task of looking after the Urology department alongwith Dr. Rahul Gupta who has been specially drafted to the Urology wing of super-speciality hospital from General Surgery department of Government Medical College (GMC) Jammu. Civil Secretariat order makes no mention of the reasons because of which the two have been assigned this extremely critical and important department. It needs to be mentioned here that few Doctors working in the Government Medical College (GMC) Jammu have already approached Prime Minister Narinder Modi, requesting him to look into the working of the Health and Medical Education minister Choudhary Lal Singh. Sources said that they have requested for a meeting and said that a delegation of some of the prominent doctors of Jammu wants to apprise him about mess in the GMC and super-speciality hospital. They added that these doctors have even written to the BJP President Amit Shah about the alleged interference of Choudhary Lal Singh in the working of various departments both in GMC and super speciality hospital. They have even apprised both the Prime Minister and the President of BJP about the patronage that Singh has been giving to some selected doctors and other medical staff. |
