No more divisive politics | | Sunaina Malik | 8/2/2015 11:53:05 PM |
| It is very tough for me to comprehend why time and again mischievous elements in our society inflict injuries to the emotions and faith of their brethren. The recent tension in Rajouri was undoubtedly the most deplorable, condemnable and appalling act of such elements. Those who try to disturb peace in our society by their such acts should not be spared and must be dealt with a heavy hand. In our democracy, we cannot afford a division in society and gaps in our hearts. Those who try to do so must be booked under the law of the land. They should not be allowed to go unpunished as this, in turn, encourages other such disruptive forces. It is like beautification of a pigmented face of a girl with heavy make up. The moment that make up is washed out, pigmented spots of that girl would emerge again. It saddens when people resort to mischievous acts and try to divide the society. While it may never help them to achieve their hidden agendas, it definitely leads to tension. In the case of Rajouri, peace was ultimately restored due to the intervention of the elderly persons of the area and this was appreciated by one and all. Peace is peace and must be preferred to violence in any case. If peace loving people join hands and work in tandem with each other to promote brotherhood among different communities, the mischievous elements would automatically get reduced to zero. Let all of us work to strengthen democracy and demoralise disruptive elements by holding community get-togethers on regular intervals. This would also help in strengthening personal relations. Hatred begets hatred only and leaves indelible scars on the minds of the people. Let hatred be permanently replaced with love, affection and respect for each other and respect for the faith of others. Let us develop tolerance in us. Let us contribute in the development of our nation and not become an impediment on the path of its development. Let peace be given time to take roots in society.
