Early Times Report

JAMMU, Sep 15: Speaking at a public awareness programme on Diabetes, hypertension and metabolic diseases here today, Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER), MoS PMO, Personnel, Public Grievances, Pensions, Atomic Energy and Space, Dr Jitendra Singh, who is also a nationally known Diabetologist, said that in the present age and times, the youth, by and large, are found to be more stressed than elders.
According to press release, during the occasion he also said that even children particularly in class 10+2 age group are not spared of this stress phenomena. This paradoxical situation has also contributed to increasing prevalence of Diabetes, hypertension and related diseases at younger age and this indeed will be the major challenge before India during the next few years, he observed.
Dr Jitendra Singh said, it is a strange paradox that while till a few decades ago, stress was reported to be more among the middle aged, it is now affecting more and more of youngsters as early as in second or third decade of life.
The paradox is that on the one hand, India is emerging as one of the youngest countries in the world with more than 65% of its population below the age of 35 years and this future youth potential is also vital to the rise of India as a world power in the next few years, on the other hand, more and more Indians at young age run the risk of suffering from long term diseases which may result in the loss of crucial man days and sometimes even incapacitation at the prime of their career or profession.
On the occasion, Dr Jitendra Singh, assisted by a team of medical specialists, offered free consultation to patients and there was also arrangement for free blood testing as well as free distribution of medicines.
