6 months on, Government fails to terminate re-employed officials | | | Jehangir Rashid Early Times Report SRINAGAR, Sept 15: Six months down the line Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and Bhartiya Janta Party (BJP) Government in the State has failed to follow up its order that was issued with respect to the termination of re-employed or re-appointed officials in the Government departments. Soon after taking charge in March the coalition Government in the State headed by Mufti Mohammad Sayeed issued an order under which the extension of services of the re-appointed and re-employed officials in the Government department was done away with. It was expected that the order would be implemented in letter and spirit, but that has not happened up to this moment of time. Sources told Early Times that the order was half-hearted one since it was not followed by corresponding order of General Administration Department (GAD). As the subsequent order was not issued it became evident that the State Government is not serious in terminating services of re-employed or re-appointed officials. "Barring a few officials no action whatsoever was taken with respect to termination of re-employed and re-appointed officials. The present dispensation is following the footsteps of previous Government of National Conference and Congress with regard to re-employment and re-appointment of retired officials," said sources. Sources said the non-issuance of the order by GAD gave a chance to the re-employed and re-appointed officials to stick to their respective chairs. The extension of services of the retried officials or re-employment of some of the already retired officials virtually jeopardized the promotion prospects of the officials already working in these departments. "If the Government is serious they can still undo the damage caused by the re-employment or re-appointment of retired officials. A single order from GAD would settle the dust and lead to the termination of the re-employed or re-appointed officials. However, at present it seems that many a slip between cup and lip with respect to this matter," said sources. Sources said that GAD needs to furnish a list of the officials who have been re-employed or re-appointed in the various departments by the previous Government. The list needs to be followed by an order under which the services of the re-appointed or re-employed can be terminated. "None of the re-employed or re-appointed officials is credible so that he or she leaves the job of their own. As such the people at helm have to be offensive and ensure that the job half done is completed. This can be done by the issuance of the termination order of the re-employed or re-appointed officials. GAD has to take the lead in this regard and they need to pull up their socks for a clean and transparent system," said sources. It would be in place to mention here that the present Government has so for terminated 63 officials after it was established that they were involved in different malpractices and embezzlements. However, the much awaited second list has not been finalized as yet thus giving an impression that the Government has gone soft on corrupt officials. |
