Communal politics befooled Jammu people, Ladakh is mature: Jora | No visible support for BJP in LAHDC-Leh elections | | Javaid Naikoo Early Times Report
Srinagar, Sept 15: There is no visible support for the BJP in Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council (LAHDC) elections for Leh District. Congress which won 22 out of total 26 seats when elections were conducted last time has given mandate to 12 candidates so far and according to party office bearers is engaged to nominate rest of 14 faces in coming two days. BJP which according to locals by way of playing communal politics had registered first ever victory in parliamentary elections tasted defeat in assembly elections in Nubra and Leh constituencies. Both the seats were bagged by the Congress. Out of total 26 seats, BJP had won only 4 seats when LAHDC elections were conducted last year, however, according to sources keeping in view internal bickering prevailing in Leh BJP unit, experts see zero % success for BJP in upcoming LADHC elections. "We are up to remind BJP its poll promises of granting union Territory status for the region, opening of Kailash Mansarovar road to boost local economy here, Jobs for youth, Hi-tech telecommunication facilities."Said one Local Congress Chief Campaigner for LAHDC, Leh elections, Nawang Rigzin Jora talking to Early Times said that "BJP by way of communal politics befooled Jammu people when assembly elections were held last year in the name of scrapping Article 370 and development which they (Jammu people) are yet to see." "BJP's double standard worked in Jammu only, people of Ladakha are mature enough to understand double standard of BJP leadership, BJP is exposed among common masses across the state. How can they face the people, "Jora told Early Times. National Conference and PDP according to experts does not fall in line of contest for LAHDC elections as both regional parties have no strong base in the region. Already on September 8, Ladakh Affairs Department had issued notification vide SRO 305 for holding elections to all 26 seats and per decided schedule elections are due on October 17 and counting on October 23. As per constitutional provisions, in addition total 26 elected councillor seats; state government has the provision of nominating four more members taking its total strength to 30. A nomination for four members from Government comes once the process of elections is over and as per details nominations are motivated with the party having won more seats. Experts terming people of Leh District as opportunists who mean business always believe that locals of Leh will give tough times to BJP this time as party leadership despite making tall claims of granting union territory to region has failed in doing so despite being in power. Congress maintaining its supremacy in the upcoming elections too according to details is fielding its old faces like Samphel, Rigzin Spalbar, Rigzin Jora, Gialchan Narboo and Delden Namgyal once again; however party may go some new faces as well this time to gain more public sympathy. |
