Govt agencies, land mafia involved in encroachment of Shirnes land in Valley | | | Early Times Report SriNagar, Sept 15: The encroachment of Kashmiri Hindu shrines land is on increase in Kashmir Valley where thousand kanals of shrines land has been illegally occupied by some government agencies and land mafia in connivance with Revenue Department. Despite the repeated pleas by the displaced Pandits from Valley over the years regarding passage of Kashmiri Hindu Shrines and Religious places Bill to protect the shrines and temples in Valley, the Government has failed to restore the land to these religious places. The property of Hindu religious places right from Verinag to Uri, Kupwara, Kangan and Bandipora as well as Budgam has been encroached both the Government agencies and land mafia having full patronage of law enforcing agencies. The delay in passage of Shrines and Temples Bill by successive Governments has embolden the land mafia as well as the Government agencies to lay their hands on the Hindu shrines and temples property in Valley. According to sources former legislators in Dooru, Kokernag were openly involved in constructing the government health centers and sports fields on the land belonging to Hindu religious bodies in Kashmir. Some government agencies had encroached the shrines land in Tikker Kupwara while some influential politicians were involved in encroachment of religious places land in Wangath Kangan taking undue advantage of their position. The Hindu religious places land has also been encroached in Sopore township of Baramulla district of North Kashmir where the cremation ground land has been grabbed by the PWD Department for construction of a bridge over river Jehlum over a decade back. In Wanpooh township of Anantnag district land belonging to Samadhi of a religious saint has been encroached by the Health Department while some land mafia groups have also encroached the land of Jawala Ji Shrine and Jewan Sahib Shrine in Khrew and Laddo area of Pampore tehsil of Pulwama district of South Kashmir respectively. What has added to the woes of Kashmiri Pandit Biradri members is the recent encroachment of the land belonging to Shiv temple at Bijebheara Anantnag in South Kashmir. Devasthan Prabhandak Committee Bijbehra which has lodged a strong protest against the same was shocked to see that instead of Government acting to restore this land to the temple, the Revenue Department has issued order for demolition and bulldozing of the Plateau at Bijbehara which is known as Vijay Udder on which the centuries old Hindu shrine of Mother Goddess Mata Vijaya Devi exist which is a prominent deity of Hindus. The Prabandhak Committee while taking serious note of the Government action of demolishing the plateau said this has hurt the sentiments of Hindu community a lot. Not only this the cremation ground at Akingam Anantnag district of South Kashmir has been also encroached by a group of land mafia. The Biradri members have pleaded before the Government demanding restoration of the land belonging to ancient cremation ground in the area. |
