| AJKKM demands procurement centres, compensation for damaged crops | | |  Early Times Report
Kathua, Sept 21: All J&K Kissan Movement (KM) members today staged protest demonstration and demanded establishment of procurement centres and compensation for damaged crops of farmers hailing from district Kathua.
According to press release, Babu Singh, Convener All JK Kissan Movement & former JK Power Minister projected the demands and threatened to stage agitation if government impediments to install weighing machines/ procurement centres.
While interacting to media, Babu Singh said there were procurement centres till 1990 that was dissolved later on and farmers are being harassed since then. He said private businessmen purchase their crops at low rate and harass the farmers.
Babu Singh demanded procurement centre with immediate effect at village level so that farmers can get appropriate price for their crops.
Babu Singh said All JK Kissan Movement agitated and submitted memorandum to Chief Minister of JK through DDC Kathua for compensation to farmers whose crops were damaged in incessant rains/ hailstorms in previous months.
Later on, Babu Singh State Convener JK Kissan Movement nominated Karan Singh as Chairman of JK Kissan Movement of Nagri- Barnoti- Kathua- Lakhanpur blocks, Surinder Sharma Convener Kathua tehsil, Tarsem Chand Saini Nagri block who also demanded procurement centres and compensation for damaged crops. |
