JK Govt fails employees on Eid | Salary, festival advance not released | | Muhammad Mukaram
Early Times Report Srinagar, Sept 21: The State Government has failed to keep its promise of releasing the salary of Government employees ahead of the festival of sacrifice, which is an important occasion for Muslims Worldwide. As the State is facing a severe financial crunch and is fighting hard to get more financial assistance from the Centre, nearly four lakh fifty thousand employees could not get neither their salary nor festival advance on Eid-ul-Adha. However, most of the employees have expressed their dissatisfaction over government negligence move saying that their salaries should have been released few days before Eid-ul-Adha so that they too could have made proper arrangements for the festival. "Government has announced earlier that in this month employee get their salary before Eid but our salary Account has not been credited yet. What arrangements can we make in one day," various employees from different departments told Early Times. "On Eid, a lot of arrangements have to be made; we have to get sacrificial animal (Qurbani Animal). We have to do shopping for our children. There are other preparations to be made," said a worried government employee. Standing in a long queue outside the ATM on Monday morning, employees voiced their frustration. "I was expecting my salary would have been credited in my salary account today but ATM still displays not sufficient balance in my account," said 34-year old Mubarik Shahid, father of two children. "I have to buy clothes for my sons. What else can I do? I can only hope that the Government will release salary before Eid?" At least 60 thousand employees have been appointed under various schemes as daily wagers, temporary employees, in different government departments in Jammu and Kashmir from last 15 years are still waiting for their salary from last four months. "How can I celebrate this Eid-ul- Adha festival when I don't have salary from last several months? I am the earning hand of my family what can I do now? How can I get money? As everyone like me have expectations on this festival that I will get salary from government but all goes in vain," said a daily wager of PDD with tear full eyes. Notably, Scores of SSA teachers from various districts of the Valley who spoke to Early Times said that their monthly salaries which is pending from last seven months have not been released yet. "When we approach the top level officials of the state they blame the lower rung officers and when we approach the latter they trade blame on the top level officials. Now we fail to understand whom should we approach for the release of our salaries as Eid festival is just three days away," Muzaffar, government teacher told Early Times. Another SSA teacher, Bilal Ahmad said that due to the non-payment of salaries families of many SSA teachers are virtually facing starvation. "Last month we had to collect donation for a teacher whose father was seriously ill as he had not a single penny for his treatment. There are many other teachers like him whose families are virtually starving. How can we celebrate this Eid-ul-Adha?," Bilal said. However, there are at least twenty thousand ReT teachers in the valley who has been appointed under central sponsored scheme Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan (SSA). |
