Expulsion of Kashmiri students from Colleges across country | LC witnesses noisy scenes on last day | | Asif Iqbal Naik Early Times Report Srinagar Oct 12: The last day of Legislative Council in Jammu and Kashmir today witnessed massive uproar over the expulsion of Jammu and Kashmir students selected under much hyped Prime Minister Scholarship Program by various colleges of the country. Raising the issue during "Zero Hour", National Conference MLC Sajjad Ahmed Kichloo said that hundreds of students hailing from different parts of state selected under Prime Minister Scholarship scheme either had been expelled by the college authorities or had been asked to vacate the college due to non payments of tuition and hostel fee by the selected candidates due to non release of scholarship amount by the Union Ministry of Human Resources Development. Extending its support to Kichloo, Congress MLC Ghulam Nabi Monga, Naresh Gupta and some legislators from BJP and PDP also expressed concern over delay in releasing the scholarship amount in favour of the selected students. They said that the matter required immediate attention and urged upon the Chairman to take up the matter with Government of India . Reacting to concern of the legislators, Minister for Horticulture, Hajj and Auqaf Abdul Rehman Veeri assured all the legislators that the government will look into the matter for early release of the scholarship amount in favour of these students. It is pertinent to mention that only last month Noida International University expelled at least 50 students from University Campus and hostel after Ministry of Human Resources and Development, Government of India failed to release the scholarship amount in favour of these students forcing them to take shelter in open parks of Delhi for few days before they returned home when family members arranged return tickets for them. The expelled students hailing from Jammu and Kashmir provinces were studying in the university for last two years in various Engineering courses under PM Scholarship program launched by government during Manmohan Singh led UPA- II. |
