Poor internet services afflicting students, unemployed youth, admits Govt | | | Jammu, Oct 12: As poor internet connectivity and services are afflicting the users across the state in urban areas, the government today admitted this 'pitiable' situation hitting students mostly in their academics and recruitment related matters. The IT department of J&K which has only 'lapses' in its kitty from the date of coming to existence, was stated by the government in the process of rolling out Community Service Centres in the rural areas which it claimed would improve the service. This admission came in the reply to a call attention motion moved by a Congress MLC Rani Gargi Billowria in the Upper House today with regard to poor and pathetic condition of internet services across the state. In the reply while the government referred to its Khidmat Centres in urban areas , which were equipped with infrastructure and computer connectivity meant to facilitate the people, the fact remains these centres are a part of failed project of the department, proving virtually of no use, no matter the numbers are huge, a little more than 1000. In the reply even though the government claimed centers on these lines would be rolled out in the rural and far flung areas, where it agreed the internet services and connectivity was very poor, this sounds hollow in the face of failures of the IT departments in almost all its ventures and projects taken up all these years for providing better services to people. The government has claimed that under Digital India programme GoI is in the process of setting up Optical Fibre network at Gram Panchayat level under Bharatnet scheme which shall considerably improve the connectivity even in rural areas in near future. The reply also says J&K's IT department in consultation with Government of India having taken a 'slew' of measures for providing what it states 'reliable' internet services for rural and far flung areas as also in urban areas with the help of CSCs which will help students in academics and facilitate unemployed youth in filling up online recruitment forms. When would these measures fructify, remains to be seen. Till then , people continue to struggle amid poor internet services. |
