| Encroachments on state land unabated, Rajouri tops all list of entire 22 districts | | | Early Times Report
Rajouri, Oct 27: The tall claims of ‘transparency and corruption free administration’ by the present coalition government has fallen flat in particular to Rajouri district as the corruption apparently is at its highest level with land mafia becoming active in the entire district and thus making it on the top of list of 22 districts of the State- for illegal encroachments.
According to records tabled in the Assembly in 2013, J&K State Revenue Department stated approximately 396018 kanals of government land is either encroached or under illegal occupation in Rajouri district.
As a huge spread of state land i.e. 396018 kanals of government land is under illegally encroachment and that is why the district tops the list in notoriety for illegal encroachments in the 22 districts of the State.
The official records tabled in assembly some two year ago giving statistical data said that across Jammu region about 1603580 kanals of State land is under illegal occupation of the people or encroached by some which includes 152416 kanals in Udhampur, 167521 kanals in Ramban, 141524 kanals in Reasi, 97133 kanals in Samba, 129717 kanals in Poonch , 177551 kanals in Doda , 104746 kanals in Kathua and 75159 kanals in Kishtwar district.
Mohd Tariq, member of Social Justice NGO said that an unholy criminal nexus is prevailing in Rajouri district between the officials at the helms of affairs in Forest, Revenue and Municipality Departments respectively and the land mafia which has encroached thousand of kanals of state land in the district especially under the jurisdiction of Rajouri and Thanamandi.
Tariq further demanded a high level probe including a Central investigation Bureau (CBI) inquiry into the matter to expose the culprits.
Nazir Hussain and Gulshan Kumar publicity secretary and media secretary, J&K-S Scene Watch another NGO too have expressed their concern over increase in spread of tentacles of the land mafia especially in and around Thanamandi town.
“The encroachment are taking place right under the nose of concerned officials and district administration with alleged hand in glove between revenue employees, Forest and Municipality and the land mafia and construction work are on at various places that fall under jurisdiction of on Forest lands at Danna,Thanamandi, Phangai, Dera-ki-Gali etc” said Gulshan Kumar. He said the officials are just ignoring the ongoing constructions reasons better known to them. He also alleged that tempering of revenue records in Thanamandi tehsil by the members of land mafia and revenue officials is also on and demanded a high level inquiry in this matter.
Members of different NGOs have appealed to the Forest Minister and Deputy Chief Minister to initiate departmental inquiries into the allegations and must transfer those employees of these departments who have been posted at their present positions for the last many years. Meanwhile Shieraz Inqlabi another NGO office bearer said that government must inquire about reported 30 back door appointments of casual laborers/ daily wagers in Rajori Municipality and illegal construction near the office of Assistant Executive Officer, office at Thanamandi. Seeking inquiry into the encroachment of land of historical monuments and etc, he sought a through probe in encroachment of land belonging to PHE department, Education department,, DIET complex ,old district hospital land etc.
