Bharat Ratna for Maharaja Hari Singh Why Ajatshatru remained calm over years? | | | Early Times Report
JAMMU, Oct 27: The demand made by BJP MLC and grandson of Maharaja Hari Singh that the former deserves to be given Bharat Ratna posthumously and the Jammu airport be named on his name besides declaring Accession Day as a Gazetted holiday in the State has not augur well with some political parties and social organizations of the State. Ridiculing the statement of Mr Singh the leaders of these organizations asked Mahraj Kumar that what his dynasty has been doing all over these years when his father was on important position in Congress which ruled the country for over five decades and when he was the Sadar-e-Riyasat of the State. Had been the family so sincere in giving due place to Maharaja Hari Singh, he could have been since conferred Bharat Ratna as a great nationalist and patriot who had volunteered himself to step down during freedom struggle of the country if Britishers free India. Maharaja Hari Singh even did not return the State due to the treatment given to him by then Union and State Governments and lived in a self imposed exile in Mumbai, said Pritam Sharma of Kranti Dal. Those who now demand Bharat Ratna for Maharja should have raised the voice earlier when they were in Ministry and led the people of State in highlighting this demand at various foras, he added. Supporting his views Jammu and Kashmir Peoples Front chairman Satish Poonchi said that if Maharaja's kin was so inclined in keeping the legacy of his grandfather intact and get the prestigious award of the nation for him, he should have not joined hands with National Conference (NC) which has ousted Maharaja from the State and which fought against the Dogra rule. Was not Maharaja so important for Mr Singh at the time of joining NC just for a Ministerial berth without consideration of his grand father who lived principled life till his death, Poonchi asked? He said the people of Jammu since the Maharaja's ouster have been demanding that the former ruler be given his due status as he was a great visionary and a statesman. But those now demanding that Maharaja be given due honour which a ruler of his stature deserves never bothered to joint the voice of Jammuites over the years. Even some leaders in Kashmir have ridiculed the statement of Mr Singh saying it is nothing but a political gimmick as those making the demand joined hands with the Maharaja's opponents also. They said why Mr Singh remained calm over these years and has opened his mouth now is a mute question. |
