Quake impact continues to scare people | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Oct 27: Twenty-four hours after the powerful earthquake rocked the state of Jammu and Kashmir, large number of people living in vulnerable areas continue to stay away from their houses which developed cracks and are not considered safe for human habitation. Meanwhile, reeling under the aftershocks of power tremor in the region the state govt agencies worked over time to restore communication links and road networks to ensure connectivity to the general population. Various govt agencies have been directed to gather ground feedback before completing the preliminary assessment of the material losses. Various departments on Tuesday constituted small teams to visit quake affected areas for actual loss assessment. A total number of three people died across the state due to earthquake. Two women in Kashmir valley suffered cardiac arrest while one young boy was killed when he slipped from a hillock and died on the spot in Reasi district. The situation is gradually returning to normal in hilly areas while state govt and private employees located in multi story buildings continue to fear for their lives as experts have warned of possible aftershocks within next 24 hours. The road networks which were closed down were thrown open after removing the debris and communication lines were restored to ensure people in the affected areas were able to establish contact with their close relatives and others
