BANDIPORA, Oct 27: An encounter between militants and security forces broke out in Sathri village of Bandipora district of north Kashmir on Tuesday morning. A senior police official told early times that, on a tip of information about the presence of heavily armed militants in Sithari village of Bandipora district, a joint operation was launched by Army and police today morning. Army got contact with hiding militants during search operation, after which fire was retaliated and ensued a gunfight, said the official. “Five to eight militants are trapped in the Sathri forests who are probably led by LeT commander, Abu Qasim, adding that Qasim recently escaped unhurt after killing a police officer, in Bandipora, said the official. Sources said that firing has started between hiding militants and the government forces while as fresh reinforcement of forces has been rushed to the area. Meanwhile security forces launched a massive search operation during evening time in the same Sathri forests of Bandipora district of north Kashmir to nab the hiding militants. Sources informed early times that, a joint team of Army, SOG, and police launched a search operation and cordoned off the whole suspected area after a suspicious movement of a group of 5-6 heavily armed was noticed in the area. Even though many rounds were fired in air to get the extensive response of them, but there was no reply from the other party, till the last reports came in, said the official.
