Irony of healthcare: Woman delivers baby in ambulance | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Oct: 27: Despite having two gynecologists at Sub District Hospital (SDH) Akhnoor, a woman was forced to give birth to a child in an ambulance on the way to hospital when she was referred to SMGS Hospital Jammu here on Tuesday. Sources at the hospital informed that a pregnant woman identified as Anita Kumari wife of Raju Kumar resident of Tanger Aknoor was admitted Tuesday’s morning at SDH Akhnoor when she went into labor pain. After examining, doctors posted at SDH Akhnoor, referred her to Shri Maharaja Ghulab Singh Hospital (SMGS) Jammu instead of the treating the patient at SDH Akhnoor reasons better known to the medicos at SDH Akhnoor. “Hardly the ambulances had left for Jammu the patient delivered baby just after 20 minutes journey towards Jammu from Akhnoor,” sources said quoting one of family members. “Ironically there are two gynecologists posted at SDH Akhnoor, sources said and questioned their working saying that instead of giving the pregnant lady due medical treatment, they allegedly referred the lady to already overburdened hospital Jammu. “Surprisingly the delivery was normal but not a cesarean or any other complicated delivery case, sources said further adding, “the response of the doctors at SDH Akhnoor reveals not only unprofessionalism but also insincerity towards their duties entitled. Sources also alleged that the two lady doctors are not handling the affairs at said hospital instead has made it (SDH Akhnoor) only a referral hospital from where most of the woman patients of any kind to Jammu hospitals. Meantime all attempts to contact the Block Medical Officer (BMO) Akhnoor to get his comment in this regard turned futile.
