| Not only BJP even NC also promises moon to people | | | A former Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir Omar Abdullah has rightly blamed the BJP and its strongman,Prime Minister,Narendra Modi,for having promised union territory status for the Ladakh region during the Assembly election held in 2014 and during the recent Ladakh Hill Development Council poll.
Well everything is fair in love and poll battle.Possibly the National Conference leadership should know it better than any another organization because in the previous elections its leadership would be heard promising people to secure restoration of greater autonomy which had been eroded.Did it achieve any success?
No hitherto the NC leaders have been harping on the issue of restoration of internal autonomy and except that it has not been able to fulfill its commitment it had made to people of Jammu and Kashmir.At time the BJP and even a section in the state unit of the Congress would campaign for statehood for Jammu region during electioneering. Have they been able to fulfill their commitment ? Certainly not.
This way if the BJP has promised moon for the people of the state or for the people of Leh district it is for the voters to understand whether the BJP's promise is expected to yield some results.
Omar Abdullah has hit out at Prime Minister,Narendra Modi, alleging that he had forgotten to inform the people about his promise to "dismember Jammu and Kashmir" for votes in Ladakh which was assured the status of Union Territory by the BJP during the recent polls here."How disingenuous of the Hon PM to forget to tell the people of Bihar that his party promised to dismember J&K for votes in Ladakh," Omar wrote on micro-blogging site, Twitter.
Omar was referring to the recent Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council (LAHDC) elections in which BJP got a thumping majority of 18 in the 26-member council. Opposition parties, Congress and National Conference, have accused the BJP of making the grant of Union Territory status to Ladakh as its main poll plank.
If the allegations of Omar Abdullah are correct the BJP leadership should apologise for this blunder.Why an apology ? For two reasons.
One. Did the BJP fulfill its promise of granting statehood status to the region of Jammu ? Second.Did the BJP implement its agenda for reorganization of the state of Jammu and Kashmir ?No,the BJP has not been able to fulfill its promise because implementing the plan is fraught with serious consequences and that too when Pakistan has been trying hard to internationalise the Kashmir issue.In fact India's claim that people of Kashmir opted for accession with India was the result of peoples'faith in the secular traditions of the country.
And if the state of Jammu and Kashmir is reorganized in three separate states,with Ladakh region getting the Union Territory status and Jammu and the valley getting separate statehood status it may weaken the very foundation of credible secular and democratic structure of India.
Well Omar need not cry over the promise of granting union territory status to Ladakh region because other organizations, including the National Conference, have been making tall promises to people during electioneering.By blaming Modi and the BJP for promising union territory status for Ladakh region Omar himself was trying to strengthen the vote bank for the National Conference.
This what has and is being done by all political leaders and parties. One may not be able to single out even one organization that does not make promises to people during electioneering. |
