Early Times Report

Srinagar, Oct: 27: The farmers who had dared to save mulberry plantation around the Nadirgund bund have decided to withdraw cases for fear of the land mafia. The mafia have threatened them of dire consequences incase they came in their way.
According to the sources to privy to the development, “two farmers are going to withdraw the cases after they were threatened by some persons involved in land mafia which is active in Nadirgund.”
“These mafia people are backed by some high level officials who carry out these land grabbing activities in the broad day light. The farmers had complained about chopping of mulberry trees to higher officials ,” the source added.
Despite the fact that there is a stay order from High court on any sort of construction in Khacharai in Nadirgund but the land mafia are still continuing their road widening work as the officials ignore the construction for obvious reasons.
Breaching the court orders, the land filling is going on in broad day light without any interference from the police or government, the locals said. The group of locals who claim that they are the owners of the land say “some unknown persons involved in land mafia are filling the land and trying to grab their land with the help of some officials in DC’s office.”
When the farmers tried to stop these ‘unknown persons’ from filling the land, they were threatened and told to stay away.
Now, farmers have appealed the concerned authorities to look into the matter. Despite the repeated attempts to DC Srinagar, he was available for comments.
