BANDIPORA, Feb 4 : Three militants including two foreign militants were killed in an encounter in the Khosa Mohalla of Hajin area in this North Kashmir district today. The encounter started after the security forces laid a cordon and search operation in the area. Sources and eye-witnesses said that the encounter erupted at around 10:30 am after a joint team of army and police launched an operation in Khosa Mohalla of Hajin area, following a tip-off about the presence of two to three militants there. "On a tip off about the presence of militants in Khosa Mohalla security forces cordoned the whole area, and restrictions were put in place on public movement," said sources. "Additional reinforcement was called in today in the afternoon. We had asked the local people to leave the spot and as such people were stopped from going near the house," said a senior police official. Sources said that, amid restrictions scores of youth took to streets and resorted stone pelting near encounter site in Hajin area. Youth assembled near Khosa Mohalla and Hajin market and started pelting stones on forces engaged in encounter that erupted this morning. Police and CRPF contingents were rushed to the spots to quell the protesting youth. Sources said that, after killing of two militants the security forces personnel blasted a residential house, where suspected militants were holed up. The blasted house belongs to Sonaullah Bhat of Khosa Mohalla. Personnel from 13 RR Manasbal, SOG Sumbal and Bandipora continued to target the house where militants were allegedly holed up. However, despite the repeated fire shots on part of security forces personnel, militants didn't respond. DIG North Kashmir range, Garib Dass said that the encounter had started after security forces launched a search operation at Khosa Mohalla, following information about presence of militants in the area. "The operation is over and all the three militants have been killed. Dead bodies have been retrieved from the site of operation and weapons have been also recovered. Most likely two of the killed militants are foreigners while the third one is local. The exact identity will come later by the time personnel sanitize the area," said DIG. It is pertinent to mention here that the encounter comes five days after three militants were killed in an encounter with security forces in the Kupwara district of North Kashmir. |
