NC President at it again, drops enough hints to form Government in state | Farooq, Omar on separate pages on government formation | | Jehangir Rashid
Early Times Report SRINAGAR, Feb 10: Desperate for power the President of National Conference, Dr. Farooq Abdullah yet again spoke his heart out with respect to the government formation in Jammu & Kashmir. Dr. Abdullah while speaking to journalists at Chennai the other day said that the position of National Conference would be known as and when the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and Bharatiya Janta Party (BJP) fail to form the government in the state. He said the future course of action of the party would depend on the 'inability' of PDP and BJP to form government in the state. "Let the PDP and BJP first reach to any conclusion with respect to government formation in the state. As and when they fail to strike an agreement to form the government then only the National Conference would come in the picture. Let you wait for the response of my party and you would come to know about it at the right moment," said National Conference President. Dr. Abdullah's latest statement is quite contrary to the recent statements of the party leaders including Omar Abdullah, the working president of the party. Omar has been maintaining that his party would not stake claim to form government in the state while as his father seems to have a different plan. More than a month back the National Conference President had dropped enough hints that his party would stake claim to form the government once the PDP and BJP fail in this regard. Dr. Abdullah had said that his party would think of forming the government in the state with BJP if the later contacts them in this respect. However, Dr. Abdullah's son Omar who is a former chief minister of the state reprimanded his father and said that NC is not in the race for government formation in the state. Few days back Omar even went to the extent of saying that NC's doors have been closed for BJP. He said that the party would go to people in case PDP and BJP fail to form the government. Sources told Early Times that Dr. Abdullah and Omar are on separate pages with regard to the government formation in Jammu & Kashmir. While senior Abdullah does not want to miss out on any opportunity on the government formation in case such a situation arises; his son believes that such a step would be detrimental to the future of the party. In such a situation the senior Abdullah and the junior Abdullah are at loggerheads as far as government formation in the state is concerned. Sources said that the confusion between Dr. Abdullah and Omar may lead to the division among the cadre of the party. The old guards who are said to be close to President of the party would not hesitate in giving vent to their feelings and take dig at Omar with respect to government formation in the state. |
