World need to take Ban Ki-moon's warning seriously
2/11/2016 11:46:46 PM
If any proof was required for the grow ing threat of IS in various regions of the world, particularly in the South Asian region, the confirmation has been given by the UN Secretary General, Ban Ki-moon. Moon has in the report has talked about the increasing threat of IS in various regions of the world though the ISIS may be, at present, confined to half a dozen countries. As far as the South Asian region is concerned India has to initiate tough measures for preventing activists of IS from carrying out recruitment of already indoctrinated boys who may later enhance the level of violence in India. Already India has been facing the menace of Pakistan sponsored terror.First terrorists trained in camps in Pakistan and occupied Kashmir targetted Punjab and it took about five years for the security forces to to tame terrorists who had staged dance of death and destruction in Punjab,As the situation was improving in Punjab Pakistan sponsored insurgency raised its head in Jammu and Kashmir and during the last 26 years more than 45,000 people, including several hundred security personnel, were killed and several thousand were either maimed or injured. Though the situation is under control the menace of terror is not yet over. Notwithstanding the fact that senior functionaries of the Army and the paramilitary forces do not apprehend any threat to Jammu and Kashmir from ISIS,but the way IS flags are waved during protest rallies in Kashmir indicates that ISIS has gained support in the valley.
UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon has warned of the danger of the Islamic State spreading its tentacles to South Asia through organisations like the Tehreek-e-Khilafat in Pakistan and called for international action against the grave threat. In a grim report on the Islamic State's threat to international peace and security presented to the Security Council Tuesday, Ban said groups like the Tehreek-e-Khilafat in Pakistan "are sufficiently attracted by its underlying ideology to pledge allegiance to its so-called caliphate and self-proclaimed caliph. "Ban called the organisation Islamic State, which is also known by the acronyms ISIS, ISIL and Da'esh, "an unprecedented threat to international peace and security. " He said, "This is a matter of considerable concern, since these groups appear to be emulating ISIL's tactics and carrying out attacks on its behalf." "In 2016 and beyond, member states should prepare for a further increase in the number of foreign terrorist fighters travelling to other States on the instructions of ISIL," he added. The Islamic State now controls swaths of territory in Iraq and Syria, but Ban said, "The recent expansion of the ISIL sphere of influence across West and North Africa, the Middle East and South and South-East Asia demonstrates the speed and scale at which the gravity of the threat has evolved in just 18 month
In the light of the observation of Ban Ki-moon it is mandatory for various developed and developing nations to join hands for defeating the designs and plans of the ISIS. Each member country of the United Nations should not treat this threat from ISIS baseless. If the member nations prepare for meeting the challenge posed by ISIS individually there is no guarantee of any success against the IS which has a large number of activists holding sophisticated weapons, ammunition and explosives. If the member nations of the UNO want the ISIS menace to end there is need for raising special security teams on the international scale which could be trained to eliminate the ISIS activists who have started posing fresh challenges to world peace. No country should treat the IS activities, designs and plans meant for a particular region. Member countries should treat the increasing activities of ISIS activists danger to all countries. It is an admitted fact that these IS activists have not spared Islamic countries which has forced many religious scholars to treat the IS as a major enemy to Islam. Whatever may be the plans of the ISIS it is time for the east and the west, for the north and the south to join hands and wage a united war against ISIS.That is the only way to tame the ISIS activists and other terrorist outfits.
