5 days workshop on "Library Automation" concluded | | | Early Times Report Jammu, Feb 12: Five day long workshop on "Library Automation" under Centre Sponsored Scheme (CSS) was organized by Government College of Education, Jammu from February 8 to 12 which concluded. The workshop was designed with the objective to include librarians and teachers of different Govt. Schools of Jammu who showed keen interest in this field to have better understanding on various aspects of library science and want to promote library in the school to generate reading habit among students. The valedictory function was presided over by the Principal of the college Prof. (Dr) Koushal Smotra. She addressed the gathering by saying that in school libraries where the librarians have to handle large strength, technological advent in libraries can gear the speed and promptness in operations. She appreciated the participants for taking keen interest and enthusiasm to learn in all the session, especially in the practical understanding that was generated in the sessions. Report of the five day long workshop was presented by Dr Piyali Arora, Assistant Prof. Govt. College of Education, Jammu, and the vote of thanks was presented by Dr Mohd. Zubair Kales, Associate Professor, Govt. college of Education, Jammu. The whole program was anchored by Prof. Ashu Jolly, Assistant Professor, Govt. College of Education, Jammu. Others who were present on the occasion were Prof. Anju Bala, Dean Student Welfare, Govt. College of Education, Jammu, Dr Anuradha Seth, Chief Librarian and organizing secretary of the workshop, Dr Sindhu Kapoor, Prof. Mansi Sharma Prof. Sunita. Surjeet Singh Chib, Sonika Slathia, Poonam Gupta and Mansha Khajuria were some of the participants who shared their feedback and addressed that the theme of the workshop is first of its kind covering wide dimension of library science and such endeavor should be continued in future as well. The fifth and final day of the workshop was devoted for the field visited MIER College, Jammu and the Central Library of Jammu University. Participants were oriented with Total Library Software System (TLSS) being used in MIER College Library. Chief Librarian of MIER College Suneel Bhat interacted with the students and cleared their doubts. Thereafter, visit to Central Library, University of Jammu was equally effective where Assistant Librarian Dr Gurdev Singh gave thorough awareness regarding information resources, services and IT infrastructure available in the library. The visit to the libraries was a good learning experience which helped to widen learning horizon of participants pertaining to library automation. |
