Army man gets injured in ongoing encounter with militants in Kupwara | | | S Tahir-ul Haq
Early Times Report KUPWARA, Feb 12: An army jawan was injured in the ongoing encounter that broke out today afternoon between militants and security forces in Chowkibal village in this district of North Kashmir. A senior official told early times that a contact with the militants was established today afternoon. The official said that the contact was established following information about the presence of militants which are believed to be three to four in number in some separate houses. "A joint team of security forces including of Army's 41 RR, 19 Marathas, SOG and CRPF have cordoned off the whole area so that militants cannot escape from the site of encounter," said official. The official said that the contact was established with the militants very late afternoon. He since it is getting dark now it will take some more time in reaching the militants. He said that all the security arrangements to nab or eliminate the hiding militants from the area have been taken. The additional reinforcement from other parts of Kupwara district was called in to flush out the hiding militants from the area, said official. If sources are to be believed than 4-5 militants have recently infiltrated from other side of Line of Control (LoC) in Chowkibal area of Kupwara district. "Soon after the cordon was established, the search party came under fire from the hiding militants with security forces returning the fire," said sources. Meanwhile a senior police official said that a soldier who was a part of operation sustained bullet injuries and he was evacuated to the nearby hospital for advanced treatment. It is also learnt from the reliable sources that the intermittent exchange of fire was going on in the area, till the last reports came in and search operation has been intensified to nab the hiding militants at the earliest. |
