| Auqaf Daig gets costlier, people protest | | | Early Times Report
JAMMU, Feb 11: People have accused the Auqaf of arbitrarily increasing the rate of "Daig" in one go which is a common item which people make for their respective functions. The increase is an attempt of the Auqaf to loot the gullible masses.
Prior, it was RS 150 for single Daig few weeks ago but now they have increased it to Rs 300 which the people said cannot be justified. Sources told early times that Auqaf which is "Muslim wakf" takes control of shrines, mosques and properties etc. In wake of increase in the exorbitant rate Auqaf is under severe criticism.
Increasing the cost to Rs 300 is really condemnable and especially poor people have to think twice before taking the single Daig, people said.
People have urged the higher authorities to intervene to direct Auqaf department to roll back this arbitrary increase of the Daig in the interest of the people.
Auqaf administrator, Waseem Raja admitted that they have increased the rate of Daig for its maintenance. "For doing Kalai we have to spend Rs 24,000 to Rs 25,000," he said. He ruled out any roll back of the order. |
