Jammu, Apr 3: National Continuing Medical Education (CME) cum Workshop was organized by the Department of Forensic Medicine & Toxicology, Government Medical College Jammu in the collaboration with NGO 'Voice For Rights' in the auditorium of GMC. The topic was "Medicolegal Aspects of Rape Trial". It was first of its kind event as its goal was to provide the highest level of training, practical instructions, current information and strategies to Medical professionals / Doctors who are responders and advocates to the victims of crime against women. The participants included HODs, Faculty, Residents, PGs and UG students from GMC and SMGS Hospitals as well as ASCOMS Sidhra. Moreover, Gynaecologists and Medical officers from peripheral Health institutions including Gandhi Nagar and Sarwal Hospitals also participated. Principal Dr. Zahid Gillani, inaugurated the CME and was chief guest on the occasion. The welcome address was presented by Dr. Bhupesh Khajuria, Prof and HOD Forensic Medicine Department, GMCJ and organizing chairman of CME whereas, the introduction and objective of CME was read by Advocate Deepika Singh Rajawat Chairperson of NGO. Professor Dr. Jagadeesh N. Reddy a renowned Forensic Medicine Expert from VIMSR, Bangalore delivered Guest lecture on the topic Protocol of examination of Rape victims, opinion framing & recent advances in Rape laws. Dr. Sunil Sharma B.M.O from Health Department discussed about 'Rape Trauma Syndrome' and "suggestions for Speedy trial in Rape cases". A documentary on the theme 'India’s daughters-Indian Rapists' was also screened. Additional Advocate General, J&K High Court, Advocate Aseem Sawhney highlighted the celebrated Judgments on Rape trial. Abila Rakwal, Administrator also spoke on the occasion regarding female harassment. It was followed by Interactive question - answer sessions. Finally, vote of thanks was presented. |
