Would Omar abide by Deobandi fatwa against 'Bharat Mata Ki Jai'? | | | Abodh Sharma
Early Times Report
Jammu, Apr 3: Omar's second jibe on emotive slogan of 'Bharat Mata Ki Jai' in a week against Mehbooba Mufti and PDP that entered into alliance with BJP second time to form Government in Jammu and Kashmir could be an attempt to convey a veiled message to the Kashmiri electorate, but it is suggestive of Omar's own take on the slogan that enthuses deep sense of nationalism and patriotism in the hearts of billions of Indians. Omar 's first jibe on Mehbooba came when the latter called on Prime Minister Modi and foundation of new alliance government was laid. "Shall Mehbooba be made to chant 'Bharat Mata Ki Jai?" Omar had tweeted. Failing to evoke any response from Mehbooba, Omar took to his satirical style on twitter again, on Sunday, posting, "I look forward to seeing all the members of the PDP-BJP alliance say this as soon as they take their oath tomorrow". "Omar's poke is suggestive of his own aversion to the slogan and it also indicates that he vindicates the fatwa issued by Deoband Darool Uloom" said a BJP office bearer. Deoband Darool Uloom in its fatwa, issued on April 1, asked Muslims not to chant "Bharat Mata ki jai" because it goes against the basic Islamic principle of worshipping one God. The controversy over patriotic slogan began on March 14, when Asaduddin Owaisi - leader of Hyderabad's All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen - declared that he would never say "Bharat Mata ki jai" even if a knife was put to his throat. Owaisi's remarks were in defiance of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh's emphasis on chanting patriotic slogans to hail Mother India. Two days later, AIMIM leader Waris Pathan was suspended from the Maharashtra Assembly by a unanimous vote after he refused to say "Bharat Mata ki jai" in the House. |
