Early Times Report
Jammu, Apr 3: In an attempt to forge truce between PCC president G A Mir and senior vice-president Sham Lal Sharma, the All India Congress Committee general secretary an incharge J&K affairs, Ambika Soni is arriving here on April 9. She is likely to stay in Jammu and Kashmir for two days, during which she is scheduled to meet the party leaders, chair a working committee meeting of PCC and address a meeting of Mahila Congress workers of the State. Ambika Soni is arriving here after a long gap, particularly in the wake of her appointment as incharge Punjab affairs in addition to her own responsibilities. Even as party leaders are tightlipped over the sudden programme of Ambika Soni, sources in Congress circles said that main objective of her visit to Jammu Kashmir is to re-establish friendly relations between PCC president and PCC senior vice-president, who are at loggerhead for the last one month. The PCC president annoyed Sham Lal Sharma by attending a public rally at Jourian in Khour, which was organized by former Deputy Chief Minister and bête-noire of the Sharma brothers, Tara Chand. In the wake of the controversy, there were reports of closeness between Ghulam Nabi Azad, leader of opposition in Rajya Sabha and Sham Lal Sharma, who is believed to be most confident man of Ambika Soni in Jammu and Kashmir. There were also reports that the Sharma brothers (Sham Lal Sharma and Madan Lal Sharma) were planning to arrange a massive public meeting of Ghulam Nabi Azad in their hometown Akhnoor. However, before Azad camp could fully succeeded in wooing powerful Sharma brothers into their side, Ambika Soni came into action and asked G A Mir to take Sham Lal Sharma into confidence. As both the leaders sought to justify their respective position, Ambika Soni decided to personally visit the State to remove all misunderstandings between the two, sources explained. |
