Early Times Report

JAMMU, Apr 3 : Thirty three ex-servicemen who were appointed in Strategic Manpower Solutions Limited (SMSL) involved in providing services to their clients through outsourcing human resource services and appointed as Field Engineering Officers (FEO) with a gross compensation of Rs 3,24000 per annum for a period of two years are facing retrenchment after the over one year or before that.
According to these aggrieved FEOs who had served in army for about two decades the issuance of retrenchment notice by the organization has come as a bolt from blue to them as the company before completing their contract period of two years has served retrenchment notice to them with the remarks that the company has been considerably trapped down due to which availability of works of the same nature, as they were performing have also been considerably reduced.
Despite running from pillar to post the company has till date failed to entertain their representations and pleas of absorbing them with the new projects of clients.
Vijay Kumar spokesperson of the FEOs Jammu Circle while talking to this reporter said that their pleas have failed to yield results. He sought the immediate intervention of the Defense Ministry saying being the ex-servicemen they have served the nation on frontiers and their pleas be considered and in case the agencies with which the outsourcing agency had engaged them has reduced the work, they be absorbed with other clients or on other works undertaken by the same company in the State.
He said by issuing the retrenchment orders the company has put these hapless ex-servicemen to economic hardships and trouble. Questioning the rationale behind the retrenchment order Vijay said no such decision has been taken regarding the workers of the Company in Kashmir Valley and the retrenchment letters were given in Jammu region only. Moreover when the appointment letters were given for a period of two years how the termination letters were issued after completion of one year in some cases and before one year in other cases.
These hapless FEOs have also given a representation to Labour Commissioner and sought his immediate intervention in the matter on humanitarian grounds. Besides they have also decided to knock the doors of Central Labor Commissioner seeking his intervention in the matter also. They said by issuing the retrenchment letters before completion of the two year contract period the company has cheated the ex-servicemen and done a great disservice to their service to the nation.
