Ahead of new academic session, Parents face private schools' blackmail | Fee increased, students forced to buy books, uniforms from schools | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Apr 3 : It seems that the private schools in winter capital have not only monopolized entire education system, they have scant regard for the government directions against arbitrary increase in fees charged by them. As the new academic session gets under way, schools have allegedly started fleecing the parents, as various charges (including tuition fees and other) are being revised by the schools illogically. "Despite the warning of School Education Department private schools keep harassing parents. Schools are indulging in commercial activities by selling books, uniforms and stationery goods. All private schools are ignoring norms by hiking tuition fee and transportation charges. Schools were also warned that if they were found flouting any instruction, recommendation for the cancellation of affiliation would be sent to the respective boards", said a parent whose ward studied in a noted private school of the city. "There should be a mechanism to check this monopoly" he added. "Director school education should rationalize transportation charges fixed by the schools. Charges be fixed as per distance and not on whims of the schools", said another parent. Parents said that the Education authorities should clarify on the fee structure as well as other charges. "These schools are forcing the students to purchase un-necessary items on exorbitant rates and thus fleecing the parents of their hard earned money", they alleged. "These schools are earning corers of rupees in lieu of commission from the suppliers of books and uniforms," they alleged and appealed to the government to take necessary action in this regard. |
