Mendhar, Apr 3 : Alleging that PMGSY department had conducted a wrong survery of 7.5 km Kotan-Mendhar road, residents of Gultha staged a protest against the district administration team who today visited the spot to start the last 300 mt work of the road. Tension has been brewing for the last three days with villagers alleging that PMGSY department had conducted a wrong survey of the road. The 7.5 km long Kotan-Mendhar road project is the project of 2007-08, but it started in 2011-12. For the last over 4 years, the construction work continues but it has been stopped by locals near Goltha, according to official sources. PMGSY Xen Abdul Ghani Jughal shot off a letter to SHO, Mendhar police station, Anzar Mir and informed him that the construction work was to re-start today. A high level team of district officers reached Goltha where locals staged a demonstration. Sensing trouble, deployment of 72 Bn CRPF and SOG personnel including local police was already made in the area. The protesters were demanding stopping of construction work and threatened to intensify their struggle if the department went ahead with the construction. District Development Commissioner, Poonch, MH Malik told Early Times that no law and order situation would be allowed and some alternative would be found out to continue the construction work on this vital road. |
