Pakistan's bid to concoct stories that have no legs to stand upon | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Apr 16: A case of complete dichotomy. Dichotomy in what Pakistan's envoy to the UN has said and in what Pakistan's envoy to India has stated. The level of contrast is as wide as a buffaloe's yawn. And this dichotomy is not something in deliberate on the part of Pakistan. It is a deliberate attempt to confuse the UN and other super powers, especially the US, that want Pakistan to promote cordial ties with India after smashing the entire network of all terrorists. Without any reason or rhyme Pakistan's envoy to the UN has alleged that India was "not forthcoming" in resuming comprehensive dialogue with Pakistan and such an attitude is "impeding" prospects of normalisation of bilateral relations, While in Islamabad, the Pakistan foreign office rejected a notion that the peace process was suspended, saying it remained engaged with New Delhi. Is the Pakistan foreign office more responsible than Pakistan's envoy to India, Abdul Basit? One cannot trust either Pakistan foreign office or Abdul Basit because both have been changing colours faster than the chameleons. Pakistan's Permanent Representative to the UN Ambassador Maleeha Lodhi told a group of students and faculty members from the US Army War College last week that despite a positive start following the coming to power of the Government of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, India suspended talks between the two countries on "flimsy grounds and set unacceptable pre-conditions" for their revival. Another lie that has no legs to stand upon. According to a press release by the Pakistan Mission at the UN, Lodhi said in spite of Pakistan's call to resume broad-based, comprehensive dialogue, "India was still not forthcoming". When did India suspend bilateral process of dialogue? Maleeha has not made it clear. Yes, India had suspended bilateral talks when Abdul Basit, despite instructions from New Delhi, had invited Kashmiri separatists for talks in May last. Talks were suspended to express anger by New Delhi. In Islamabad, Foreign office spokesman Nafees Zakaria during a weekly media briefing, said: "We need to look ahead and not think in terms of foreclosing any options. Both sides are in contact with each other." The spokesman was referring to media reports quoting Pakistan's High Commissioner in India Abdul Basit as having said that the peace process was "suspended". Has Abdul Basit denied his statement announcing that bilateral talks, in specific foreign secretary level talks, stand suspended? No he has not denied his statement till date. In fact proposed foreign secretary level talks were suspended by Pakistan to prevent NIA team from visiting Pakistan. In fact Pakistan had, through the media, berated India for having tried to involve Pakistan in Pathankot airbase attack and hence soon after JIT from Pakistan returned to Islamabad Basit announced talks were suspended. How could then Maleeha hold India responsible for not coming forward for reopening the channels of comprehensive dialogue ? Pakistan is seen engaged in cooking stories, later denying the basis of those cooked stories. And there is no limit to such practices. If Islamabad was keen to start comprehensive dialogue with New Delhi why did the former allow its Army to violate ceasefire in Poonch sector and other sectors on the LoC in recent weeks? Does Pakistan want to create an atmosphere which could be conducive for reopening of the channels of dialogue through violating ceasefire? If it believes so it is living in a fool's paradise because Indian troops are under instructions to retaliate each and every ceasefire violations as these were meant to push groups of militants into Jammu and Kashmir for enhancing the level of violence. |
