NC-PDP fight online as Mehbooba wins Anantnag seat
6/25/2016 11:04:21 PM
Early Times Report

Srinagar, June 25: Even as Chief Minister, Mehbooba Mufti on Saturday won the Anantnag constituency bye-elections with a decent margin of around 12,000 votes, the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP)and the opposition National Conference (NC) spend the day fighting each other online.
While Mehbooba took lead since commencement of the counting of votes in morning, for NC leadership it was time to logon to social media to do everything to defend its dust biting defeat.
For NC, the party spokesman Junaid Azim Mattu remained its best bet. Mattu started his Twitter innings for the day with allegations that Electronic Voting Machines (EVM) were not properly sealed.
"Lot of EVMs in Anantnag without mandatory seals/locks. Electoral staff says since teachers were incharge their inexperience is the reason!" Junaid tweeted.
But instead of triggering any sensation, the tweet brought more of embarrassment. "@Junaid_ Mattu since your candidate is losing the security deposit, you have to find reason for that," replied DrAjaz.
Another netizen Firdours Mir commented: "@junaid Mattu. LoL what more can be expected from U."
In the meantime as Mehbooba retained a lead in the counting of votes, her party taunted at the adversaries of PDP.
"Anantnag is today giving a befitting reply to those who ignored it for six decades and denied it development & opportunity," PDP's official Twitter handle @JKPDP said in a veiled reference to the NC.
But Mattu responded to it with attack on PDP leader Mehboob Beg, who previously was an NC loyalist. "Well ironically the man who "ignored" it for a significant period of that time is your chief Spokesperson now," Mattu said in a retweet.
And by the time NC's defeat was announced in the Anantnag by elections, Omar's another loyalist Tanvir Sadiq tried to divert the attention of the netizens by tweeting on different topic. "Why not referendum on restoration of autonomy or pre-53 status in Jammu & Kashmir # Referendum Debate," Sadiq Tweeted.
This attention diversion tactics equally failed as the netizens said the NC didn't raise such concerns when the party was in power. "Why are you talking this all now?" asked a netizen. Interestingly till the counting of votes ended, former Chief Minister and National Conference working President Omar Abdullah remained conspicuous for not tweeting anything.
Later in the day NC tried to give a look that there was some fraud in the elections. "Thanks to the whole administration, free Govt ration,& when that didn't work the tampered EVM's. Congratulations!" Tanvir tweeted.
