Early Times Report

Bhaderwah, June 25: Alleging highhandedness of the concerned authorities the local in Bhaderwah said that illegal brick kiln business has been running rampantly in Industrial area of Bhaderwah where land has been allotted to business entrepreneurs on lease only to open industrial units but some allotees throwing all rule to air had established business of brick kilns on industrial land while authorities are in deep slumber.
Some conscious locals alleged that local administration had failed on all fronts to implement recommendations of the National Green Tribunal.
Locals alleged that some people associated with some political parties also own some brick kilns and perhaps that's why the authorities have failed to action against guilty while environment laws have been violated and near the brick kilns there is Sub District Hospital (SDH) Bhaderwah is a live example of unholy nexus of brick kiln owners and the authorities at helms in concerned department.
Locals demanded closure of the brick kilns in Industrial area of Dandi Bhaderwah as lease was granted to the allotees for establishing Industrial units but not for brick kilns.
Locals also alleged that a number of brick kilns owners in industrial unit have been making bricks without obtaining permission from the District Collector who had allotted the land for Industrial units. Most of the brick kilns are not only creating air and water pollution, but also degrading the fertility of soil, environmentalists in Bhaderwah alleged and demanded immediate return of lease land from brick kiln owners
"A kiln normally uses about 8 to 10 tones of wood or coal everyday during the brick making season. The use of wood and coal creates profuse carbon dioxide that pollutes the air," a local environmentalist added and alleged brick kiln owners are using logs from adjacent reserved forests which are currently banned in any kiln but none is there to stop their alleged illegal practices.
