SADN holds meeting | | | Early Times Report Jammu, June 25: Shiromani Akali Dal National (SADN) today held a meeting in which they condemned the assertions of Sajid Gani Lone Minister for Social Welfare of the State for categorically rejecting the demand of setting up of minority commission and declaration of Sikh and Hindus as minority communities in the State in response to a query raised by certain BJP Legislature in the State upper house on June23, 1976. While addressing the meeting Dayal Singh Wazir President (SADN) strongly criticized Sajid Gani Lone for his remarks that it will add fuel to the fire if Sikhs and Hindus are given minority status in the state if the Muslim community is ignored who has suffered tremendously in the ongoing turmoil. He regretted to feel pity on the Hon'ble Minister for his assertions and said that he should know that Muslim Community in State is in majority and are ruling the state and are under moral-socio political obligations to provide certain constitutional safeguards to minority communities of the state particularly Sikhs, Buddhist and Jain. These communities have already been declared as minorities under National Minority Act of India of 1992 which cannot be extended to J&K State under article 370 of the constitution thereby depriving legitimate benefits due under the said act to the minorities in the state. He further said that Sikhs are clamouring for justice to be declared as minority from the last many decades. They are having distinct culture of faith and religion contributed immensely for the security and prosperity of the state. The legitimate demand of the Sikh community for extension of National Minority Act of 1992 has continuously been ignored by all the dispensations and now the present govt. despite of having kept the same in alliance agenda. He urged upon the Hon'ble Chief Minister to take lead in this regard from the other states of the country where as per "Sachar" and "Ranganathan Mishra Panels" formulated by GOI who has recommended reservations for Socio-Economic and Political Backward religious minorities in the country. |
