Controversial land lease bill makes BJP's position awkward | | | JAMMU, June 28: The controversial bill on sale of land on lease which has been approved by State Cabinet on Monday and which is to be tabled in the Assembly on June 30 has made the BJP's position very awkward. According to sources BJP is trying its hard to get the Bill stopped from being tabled in the House as its passage will mar the political future of the Party as the failure by BJP ministers in Cabinet to oppose the Bill has already put the party in a piquant situation. Sources said BJP leadership is making last minute efforts to convince the Chief Minster Mehbooba Mufti to get the Bill averted as the same will affect the fate of coalition in the State. However dropping the Bill from the list will also put create problems for PDP which will be under serious attack from opposition NC as well as Congress and both parties will train their guns on Mehbooba on this controversial issue, sources added. Sources said though PDP tried to play its political card by getting the Bill approved from State Cabinet for tabling in the Assembly it has already generated a public debate in the State with industry as well people dealing with trade and commerce in this region are highly opposed to it, saying that this will harm the progress and prosperity of the State. Sources said that the people opposing the Bill are of the opinion that its introduction and debarring the outsiders from the State to get land on lease will harm the prospectus of industrialization in the State and also add to unemployment to a great extent. They said the J&K is already far behind in various spheres of development and the 27 year -long turmoil has weakened its economy and development to a great extent with the result the number of unemployed youth multiplied over these years. So creating impediments in industrialization by debarring outsiders to get land on lease will harm the interests of the State further, sources said. Sources said within BJP there is a lot of confusion since yesterday and MLAs are all set to oppose the Bill if tabled for vote. Once BJP takes its stand to oppose the Bill, the PDP has to see for support from other members which will put a question mark on the fate of coalition. The BJP can't afford to support the Bill when put to vote, sources said, adding already one member of the party has brought an amendment to the Bill while another amendment has been brought by an independent member from Jammu region. Sources said the Bill has put both alliance partners BJP and PDP in a piquant situation and both can't compromise on their respective stands which can jeopardy the future of the coalition in the State. The only third option remained to come out from the crisis for the ruling alliance is that they can introduce the Bill and not take it for voting so that it will lapse by passage of time, say Constitutional experts otherwise the coalition's future is in total jeopardy. |
