Cong playing 'dirty' games to appease Kashmiris | | |
Early Times Report Jammu, Aug 20: The idea to meet President Pranab Mukherjee was mooted by the Congress and then supported by the National Conference. The Congress which sees itself as emerging as the sole 'credible' power in the state is pushing up the envelope to emerge as the real party of the state. According to the sources, the Congress which had not attended the Independence Day function at Srinagar and also boycotted the visit of the home minister is playing many cards at a time. It first forced the Modi government to hold discussion on the Kashmir in both the houses of the Parliament not once but the issue was debated four times. Both GN Azad and Dr Karan Singh left many things unanswered and open ended deliberately to appease the sensibilities of the Kashmiris. "The Congress after having used all the platforms for the discussion on this topic just to keep the political pot boiling then decided to call on the President. The Central leadership made all the arrangements then the state leadership was informed and Omar was also kept in loop," said the official. The President though doesn't have any executive power but the Congress is trying to send the message that for the concerns of the Kashmiris it's not only forcing the government to hold discussion at the highest platform ( parliament) but also knocking the highest office-the President's office. The Congress having ruled the Centre and state for major part knows the tricks of the political game and is using it to its advantage. "The Congress has gained significantly in the Kashmir as reflected in the last elections. Both the PDP and NC stand almost discredited so we are emerging as the only viable option. Omar doesn't have much more innings if he decides to go alone- he incidentally had won by just 1000 votes over Congress candidate- so has to go with us. But at the moment we are putting up his face for it and then other things will unfold," said a senior Congress leader. |
