NC campaign for President's rule goes in vain | GoI assures Mehbooba full support | | Early Times Report
srinagar, Aug 27: National Conference's desperation to fish in Kashmir's troubled waters has ended at a sour note with GoI rubbishing the reports of imposition of President's rule in JK besides according full support to Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti in bringing the present crises down in Valley. Sources within the ruling camp divulged that the national conference was eagerly waiting for the imposition of the governor's rule in Kashmir while trying to give impression that the chief minister has little control over the things that have been engulfing the region since July 8, this year. From leading the united opposition to meet the President and the Prime Minister to meeting the union home minister Rajnath Singh, all NC wanted was the end of the PDP-BJP alliance in Kashmir. All this was done by the NC to get back to the relevance that it lost post 2014 polls when the party witnessed the worst ever rout in its history. What was more surprising in Omar's constant jibes at the chief minister was that he along with his delegation didn't even suggest a single solution that could have pacified the unrest on ground. With killing of more than 70 people in the past 50 days, what everyone wanted to hear from the opposition NC and Congress was the way out. But, both the parties preferred to score the political points. The duo left no stone unturned to cease any opportunity for Mehbooba’s continuance. Sources said further that the top most priority for the national conference at present is to attain the soft- separatist tag in Kashmir valley so that it could ensure its comeback on state's political spectrum in near future. However, what has dashed opposition's hopes is the present stance of the chief minister. Her tough stand on certain vital issues has once again brought her to fore with centre itself certain of her abilities of bringing back the calm in restive valley. "We hadn't expected her (Mehbooba) to speak with such outspokenness. We all knew it is the mere five percent of the population that is making the rest of 95 percent hostile but we weren't even ready to speak that out. It was the chief minister who came out with such dazzling revelation that set the new debate in motion. Her tough stand is going to help in a long way is returning of the normalcy," says a PDP activist in Valley. Meanwhile, it was also learnt that after meeting the Prime Minister on Saturday, Mehbooba has been ensured by the GoI about all possible assistance for her endeavours to restore peace in the state. "For every step you take here, confidence of centre is must. If centre is by your side, things would get much easier to address and resolve," says a PDP insider. |
