Azad loyalists, dissidents skip meetings by Mir | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Aug 28 : All out efforts of PCC president G A Mir to rope in some Azad loyalists and dissidents in State Congress were dashed to the ground when none of the members from these camps turned up for participation in the specially called separate meetings of executive members and the general secretaries. Notwithstanding a clear warning served by Mir to dissidents, who boycotted the PCC executive committee meeting at Congress headquarters yesterday, the Azad loyalists once again defied the dictate by skipping meeting of general secretaries, which was held today at residence of G A Mir. According to the sources, Manohar Lal Sharma, Balwan Singh and Krishan Lal Bhagat (all the PCC general secretaries) did not attend today's meeting without assigning any reason for the same even as Mir had personally conveyed the message for meeting and participation of all. Even as skipping of both the meetings by dissidents and Azad loyalists was already expected, more ironic is the fact that even former Deputy Chief Minister Tara Chand, who is close to G A Mir, also preferred to keep away from the executive committee meet, sources said. While hinting about the reason, sources said that reports of some Azad loyalists also trying to woo G A Mir were taken seriously following which a clear instruction was issued to all members of the dissident group to keep away from the scheduled meetings. Since Tara Chand is accused of being friendly to G A Mir, the former was particularly chosen to personally convey all the dissidents to skip the meetings, sources added. The latest development has not only further intensified pressure of the dissidents as well as established their unit, but also helped Tara Chand to pacify his estranged godfather Ghulam Nabi Azad by conveying that he was still more loyal to him than G A Mir. |
