Cong leaders unhappy with party chief | Ignoring Jammu | | Early Times Report
JAMMU, Aug 28: Many Jammu-based Congress leaders are, according to insiders, "extremely angry with JKPCC chief Ghulam Ahmad Mir", who hails from Kashmir and is known more for controversies surrounding him than other things. They are angry with him because he has, according to very authentic sources within the party, "converted Congress into the NC's B-team" and "he had been expressing views which were Kashmir-centric and separatist-friendly". "Mir is damaging the party interests in Jammu, its main constituency, and Ladakh by dancing to the tunes of NC working president Omar Abdullah and putting all eggs in his basket. He allowed him to lead the opposition delegation to Delhi overlooking the fact that the Congress was a national party and the NC not even Valley-level. It was Omar Abdullah who addressed media persons in Delhi not once but twice and he also appeared in TV discussions in which he expressed views which only suited his leadership and his party in Kashmir," said an insider, adding that "what he said in Delhi and Srinagar during the past few days gave an impression that the Congress has merged its identity with the NC". The source further informed that "not one but many Congress leaders from Jammu told Mir on his face that his whole conduct has damaged the party's interests in Jammu and Ladakh" and that "he should conduct himself in a manner that gives the people of the three regions to understand that Congress is a party of the state and not the B-team of the NC whose constituency is only Valley". Sources further said that "many in Jammu didn't endorse the view of Mir that Omar Abdullah was made head of the delegation because he was senior to all in terms of protocol" and told him that the "general view in Jammu was that he was focusing his attention only on Kashmir". They told him that "it would be suicidal for the Congress if it ignores Jammu and Ladakh and their wishes," sources said, adding that "they also didn't like the Mir's view that the objective of the delegation was only to apprise the authorities in Delhi of the ground situation in Kashmir and urge them to take steps to defuse the situation there". It appears that all is not well with the JKPCC and its is only natural. For the interests of Jammu/Ladakh are different from the interests of Kashmiri Muslim leadership. |
