Early Times Report

JAMMU, Aug 28: Former J&K CM and working president of the now marginal NC, Omar Abdullah,on Sunday did a great service to the country and set the record straight on the rise of stone throwers in the Kashmir Valley. Earlier on August 25, J&K President and Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti had justified the killings of the disturbers of peace in the Valley, saying those killed during the past 45 days had not gone to buy milk or toffees. She had said in unambiguous terms that those who were killed were the ones who attacked police stations and security forces and had urged the people of Kashmir to prevent their wards from coming on to the roads to take part in violent activities to avoid more casualties and injuries.
Omar Abdullah also followed suit and spoke the truth about the rise of stone throwers in Kashmir. He said the rise of stone throwers was the outcome of the collective mistakes and mishandling of J&K.
Actually he responded to the remark made by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Kashmir in Mann Ki Baat that those pushing youth towards stone pelting will have to answer. "Unfortunately, sir, a lot of these youngsters have been pushed there by our corrective mistakes and mishandling of J&K".
Omar Abdullah today expressed his happiness over the Prime Minister's reference to Kashmir in his Mann Ki Baat and said that the Prime Minister Narendra Modi's reference to Kashmir in today's speech indicated that he was convinced that New Delhi had to move forward. He attributed this development to the meeting which took place in Delhi between the Prime Minister and Omar Abdullah-led opposition delegation on August 22.
Whatever the reason, the admission of Omar Abdullah needs to be commended. For, he left none in any doubt that political leadership's mistakes were responsible for the rise of stone throwers in the Valley. Now that he had held himself and other political leaders responsible for dangerous phenomenon, it is time for them to undo the mistakes and behave in a fashion that inspires youngsters and not force then to take to stone throwing at security forces.
