J&K Tankers Asso calls for strike, suspends fuel supply to Kashmir, Ladakh | | | Early Times report
Jammu, Aug 28: In view of fresh attacks on tanker drivers in the Kashmir Valley, the Jammu and Kashmir Tankers Association has again called for a strike and suspended supply of petro products to Kashmir and Ladakh. "Despite government's assurance that the tanker drivers will be provided security, some of the drivers were beaten and trucks were damaged by protesting miscreants in Kashmir on Friday," a Tanker Aasociation leader here today said. He said that the drivers are not ready to carry the supply to the Kashmir Valley fearing attacks following which Oil Tanker operators have again suspended fuel supplies to Kashmir and Ladakh. "The Government has failed to provide affective security to the drivers and cleaners and their tankers in Kashmir valley," he asserted and said that the supplies in Jammu region will continue. "We also recently met the chief minister over the issue and she assured full security, but all in vain," he added and also demanded compensation for the injured drivers and damaged trucks. The leader said the strike will continue unless no final decision regarding security to cover them is taken. |
