In Kishtwar, forest smugglers use 'Press' sticker on vehicles | | | Asif Iqbal Naik Early Times Report Kishtwar, Sept 2: The "Press" stickers are widely misused in Kishtwar and Doda as government employees, politicians and even forest smugglers paste them on their vehicles. As per details available with Early Times, some vehicles with Press logo plying on the roads in Kishtwar were found involved in smuggling of forest produce, bringing bad name to the media fraternity. Sources said that some contractors who impersonate as media persons are using the press logo on their vehicles for safe passage during nakka checking. In one such case, Kishtwar police last year seized huge amount of cash from some vehicles with press logo. In the past also Kishtwar suffered on account of misuse of press logos on certain vehicles allegedly used in flaring communal violence. The issue was raised during the meeting of Group of Ministers chaired by the then Deputy Chief Minister Tara Chand in wake of aftermath of 2013 Kishtwar communal riots. Some speakers alleged that a private vehicle with word "Press" written on it headed towards Padder that witnessed communal clashes on August 10, 2013, a day after Kishtwar town and its adjoining areas witnessed the worst ever communal clashes. When contacted, senior officials informed that the department of Information at Kishtwar has not given permission to anyone including some registered journalists for pasting press sticker on their vehicles. They assured that matter will be taken up with the police. |
