Govt appeases anti-nationals, forgets nationalist KPs | Proposal to set up separate colonies shelved | | Early Times Report Jammu, Sept 2: The present unrest in Kashmir has once again hit the Kashmiri Pandits as a few of them who had accepted employment under the Prime Minister's job package have already left Kashmir to save their lives, while the plan to resettle Kashmiri Pandits in separate colonies has been shelved. Many Kashmiri Pandits, who left Kashmir, alleged that they were threatened by miscreants and their quarters were attacked. Even a little known militant outfit Lashkar-e-Islam had pasted posters in a few areas in south Kashmir asking KPs to leave or face death. An analyst while talking to Early Times said, "Like nineties Kashmiri Pandits have been once again forced to migrate. A handful of Kashmiri Pandits who were trying to re-establish themselves in the Valley have been terrified to hilt. They are contemplating to quit rather than risk their lives for a job." Sources said that around 1800 KPs had accepted employment under the Prime Minister's job package under which they had to serve in Kashmir and not expect any transfer. A Kashmir watcher said, "When government announced that migrant Kashmiri Pandits would be settled in separate colonies in Kashmir separatists ganged up and opposed the move tooth and nail. They made it clear that they won't allow the government to take any such step." "Initially separatists issued provocative statements and vitiated the atmosphere by calling for shutdowns and strikes. After that they carried out the groundwork by activating their henchmen and group leaders to orchestrate street protests. The killing of Hizbul commander Burhan Wani provided them with a chance to set Kashmir on fire. Soon after the unrest broke in Kashmir a few KPs who had arrived in the Valley were threatened and forced to leave," he added. A political analyst said, "Separatists don't want Kashmiri Pandits to return and it has been proven beyond doubt. They (separatists) enjoy the full support of Pakistan at whose behest life of a common man in Kashmir has become a hell." "They (separatists) and radical elements have made the younger generation of Kashmiris believe that KPs are their enemies and they cannot be allowed to resettle in Kashmir. They have written KPs off," he added. "Since the day unrest has gripped Kashmir everyone has stopped talking about resettling Kashmiri Pandits. No effort has been put to acquire the land which was identified to set up KP colonies in different areas of north and central Kashmir. Both central and state government are putting in all the efforts to appease the anti-national elements in Kashmir and no heed is being paid towards the nationalists elements who have rendered numerous sacrifices for the nation," the political analyst lamented. He said, "It's unfortunate that separatists have succeeded in their nefarious designs to keep Kashmiri Pandits away from the Valley and government has bowed in front of them." |
