Local youth voluntarily start school in Anantnag | | | Saahil Suhail Early Times Report Anantnag, Sept 2: Defying separatist shutdown call, a group of educated youth have started a temporary school in Sligam village of Anantnag district. The group, according to locals has started imparting education to children in a local Eid Gah. "Seven to eight local youth who are well qualified have started the school and are imparting education to our wards without any fear," villagers expressing stratification over the initiative of youth told early Times. The local government teachers are too helping the youth and have provided the required furniture, villagers said. "We too want to continue our job of imparting education to children but we are being threatened and so fear the consequences re-starting the schools," local government teachers said. Group is providing education to around 100 students from class nursery to 8th standard. "We found it appropriate and good to start a temporary school in the village till normalcy returns," group said. They said that every student whether he is from government school or private institution is enrolled and school functions throughout the day, however in bad weather conditions school remains closed. "We are making an opinion in the village, we don't want young kids to suffer so we are hopeful that in coming day's society will come forward and will ask the teachers to open the local government schools in villages," they added. Pertinent to mention here that despite instructions of the government, teachers haven't re-opened schools particularly in far off and unaffected areas of Kashmir valley. |
