Govt asks police officers not to hold top posts in Sports bodies | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Sept 2: In a major development, Jammu and Kashmir Government has asked the police officers not to hold top posts in various sports bodies of the state. "The Police officers have been asked not to hold any profitable and top post in any of the Sports Associations in Jammu and Kashmir," an order issued yesterday by the Police Headquarters said. As per order all such Police Officers and officials, who are holding any elected office bearer's post, profitable in any Sports Association of J&K State or National Sports Associations, Federations, have been asked to resign from their respective Associations forthwith and send the compliance report to PHQ within a week's time positively, through their concerned heads. The decision has been taken in order to curb the menace which leads to violation in respect of Police officials holding Sports Associations in terms of Sub-rule 2 of Rule 21 of the J&K Employees (Conduct) Rules 1971. "In reference to SRO 164 of 1980 dated 27.03.1980 regarding holding of office bearer's post in respect of Govt servants in different Sports Associations at State/ National Level, it has been observed that various J&K Police Officers/ Officials are presently holding elected/ profitable office bearer's post in different Sports Associations of J&K, both recognized/ non-recognized with J&K State Sports Council without any prior permission from Competent Authority. Besides, a number of applications are regularly being received from J&K Police personnel for grant of permission for holding elected office bearer's post in Sports Associations," the Circular reads. It further said that since holding of different office bearer's post by the J&K Police personnel in Sports Associations of the J&K State or the National Sports Federation /Associations, affects day to day affairs in discharge of their official duties which are prejudicial to the interest in overall performance/ conduct/ official work of the official, which ultimately affects the moral of J&K Police. Henceforth, no Officer /official of J&K Police shall hold or apply for grant of permission for any profitable / elected post in any Sports Association of J&K. "IPS Officers of J&K Police, holding any post in any Sports Association of J&K State shall ensure that their respective posts in any Sports Association of J&K State are non profitable, non elected and are honorary and nominated in nature and does not affect in overall discharge of their official duties and may not be contrary to Rule 13 (2) of the All India Service Conduct Rules 1968," it added and said that any deviation into the matter shall be viewed seriously. |
