CTU observes strike for implementation of Labour Laws to ensure minimum wages | | | Early Times Report Jammu, Sept 2: Central Trade unions employees and workers today observed a complete strike in government and semi-government departments/Intuitions through the Jammu region including all district headquarters of Kathua/Udhampur/Rajouri/Poonch/Doda/Kistwar/Ramban/Samba/Reasi and Leh and held massive demonstrations and rallies at district/ tehsil head quarters. The major institutions of Jammu city wore a deserted look. The call for strike was given by Central Trade Unions especially by All India State Govt. Employees Federation (AISGEF) and endorsed by Employees Joint Action Committee (R ) and J&K Co-ordination Committee of Trade Unions (JKCCTU ) on 12 point charter of demands like full implementation of Labour Laws to ensure minimum wage of Rs 18000/pm for all temporary workers and their regularization, Implementation of Pay Commission report in the state after accepting suggestions of Trade Unions in full and removal of pay anomalies of clerical staff as per the decision of High Court. In Jammu a mass rally of thousands of employees and workers was held at Udyog Bhawan near Panama Chowk Jammu which was addressed by prominent leaders of the state after observing the strike in their respective offices and complexes. Babu Hussain Malik, president, EJAC (R) While highlighting the anti-employees policies of the State Govt. lashed on the present coalition Govt. of the state and demanded the removal of anomalies of clerical cadre of the state, regularisation of all temporary workers like casual, contract, Angawadi, Asha, Need Based, Home Guards etc and ensure their minimum wages, stop contract and casual system and fill up all the vacancies through permanent appointments and implementation of Supreme Court decision in case of Home Guards on the pattern of M.P, H.P and Punjab etc, failing which the employees moment will be forced to intensify their agitation in coming days. While addressing the rally outside the Udyoug Bhawan, Mohd Maqbool, President JKCCTU said that Neo-liberal economic and Anti-working class policy has created havoc on the lives of working people of the country. The sky-rocketing prices of essential commodities, huge unemployment, outsourcing, casualization and contractorisation and the attack on social security system are the biggest challenges today. He urged the working class of the state to intensify their struggle and fight these policies continuously and force the Govt. to reverse these disastrous policies. |
