Highway blocked for demand arrest of culprit driver | | | Early Times Report Rajouri, Oct 12 : Inhabitants of village Narian under the jurisdiction of Rajouri police station today blocked Jammu-Poonch highway at Narian for more than three hours from 11 am demanding arrest of the driver of unidentified vehicles that hit the scooter of retired Captain at about 9 pm on Tuesday resulting instant death of the retired captain. Police said the retired captain namely Mohan Singh s/o Pritam Singh resident of village Narian under the jurisdiction of Rajouri police station had gone to Rajouri to meet some relatives. He was on way back to his house when reportedly a rashly driven tempo traveler passenger vehicle coming from Jammu side hit the scooter from the front on a sharp curve and fled towards Rajouri. Critically injured retired captain was immediately rescued to sub district hospital at Nowshera by the inhabitants of the area but was declared brought dead by the doctors. At about 11 am today people kept the body on the highway and blocked the road demanding immediate identification of the accused and his arrest. On getting information of protest on the highway, Rajeshwar Singh , SSP and Mumtaz Aliu, Additional DC rushed to the spot and talked with the protesters. "On the assurance of SSP & ADC that within two days the police will identify the accused driver and the vehicle, people lifted the protest and allowed smooth flow of traffic." s retired subedarJarnail Singh, Hundreds of commuters faced difficulties for more than 3 hours after the passanger vehicles and private cars got stranded in the traffic jam. Pertinently, Deputy Commissioner, Rajouri has banned holding of protests and blocking of highway under section144CrPC but nobody follow the instructions/order and violate every now and then resulting in inconvenience to the commuters and army convoys. |
