Tainted officials 'eat' into players' refreshment, allege parents, players | Another refreshment scam hits Sports Council | | Ali Yusuf
Early Times Report Srinagar, Oct 12: Few months after ET unearthed refreshment scam in the J&K State Sports Council, players and their parents have made a fresh complaint to higher authorities in the Government, alleging siphoning of refreshment funds by certain tainted officers of the State Sports Council in Jammu. A representation has been received by the authorities supported by documentary evidence including pictures of the refreshments provided to the Judokas of the state, who attended a coaching camp in Jammu prior to their participation in the national championship. It has been alleged in the representation endorsed by the players, their parents and office bearers of the association that while the judokas attended coaching camp for 18 days, they were provided refreshments only for two days when their screening was being held. A Judoka from Kashmir, attending the camp at Jammu when contacted confirmed, "Our camp started from 23rd of September, but the refreshments were provided only for two days". Sources told ET that the players complained that the refreshments were far under value and posted pictures of the refreshment boxes provided to them on social media, alleging that they did not cost even Rs 50/- against the entitlement of Rs. 100/- per player to each camper per day for the entire duration of the camp. "We have received complaints from parents and players which have been confirmed by the association also" said a senior officer in the Ministry of Sports and Technical Education. "We have asked them to file a formal complaint, following which we shall initiate an inquiry to fix the responsibility" the officer added admitting that similar complaints were received in the past as well. Pertinent to mention here that the issue of 'eating' into refreshments for players by a mafia headed by sports officer Jammu was raised by a noted member who has been on all important committees. The member had raised his voice against flouting of codal formalities in purchases and tendering process and had refused to even sign the concerned documents, besides raising his voice against the refreshment mafia that included certain tainted officers who enjoyed patronage of the previous Secretary Sports Council. When contacted, a senior member of the Sports Council admitted that the matter was brought to his notice, but added that the complaint was filed with the government authorities and not with the Council. |
