Gurnam's family demands special medical facilities for BSF Jawans | | | Nitesh Sangral
Early Times Report
Jammu, Oct 23: Accusing the Govt Medical College and Hospital (GMC&H) Jammu of negligence, the family members of martyred Border Security Force (BSF) jawan Gurnam Singh today appealed the Prime Minister Narendra Modi to create specialized medicare services for those jawans (including BSF) who are fighting on the frontiers for saving boundaries of nation. The family members today accused that no one was there to take care of him at Government Medical College Hospital (GMC&H) Jammu. While talking to a news agency, a shocked sister of the martyr requested Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi to set up separate and special hospitals for BSF personnel and take care of them. She said, " I demand so that others do not lose their kin to doctor's negligence. I request the government of India to make special provisions so that no one undergoes such mental trauma." It needs to be made clear that Early Times already had published a news hinting that GMC&H Jammu is not prepared to tackle emergencies in the wake of escalating tension at borders after surgical strikes. Ironically the administration failed to read between the lines. On October 21, after being hit in a sniper attack by Pakistani forces, Gurnam was evacuated to Jammu, 90 km from Kathua and admitted in GMCH Jammu for treatment. Since that day the family was demanding his shifting to AIIMS for better and specialized treatment but unfortunately he succumbed to his injuries late Saturday night. "This case explains that there is dire need of revamping facilities and resources including the human resources (medicos) who are continuously ignoring the routine operations of the premier hospital in Jammu province, "said a senior doctor, wishing anonymity, recalling that as injured jawan was shifted to GMC&H Jammu the administration has not prepared for accommodating the emergency as BSF Jawans were seen running from pillar to post to get some vital tests. "GMC&H Jammu ought to have deputed one nodal person from administration to make necessary test and even treatment to be given at priority basis, he said. |
